Etta James assists the UGA SBDC as an administrative associate, initial point of contact, and resource guide. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Communications Studies focusing on both professional communication and family communication ethics.   Prior to joining the UGA SBDC, she served as an office assistant for the UGA Geography Department, engaged in event planning, and provided social media marketing to small businesses. With a passion for professional development, she supports the management and organization of the SBDC as their liaison.

Candice started with the UGA SBDC in DeKalb in February 2022. She brings over seven years of combined experience in marketing strategy, customer service and sales within retail and animal health industries.   Before her start at the UGA SBDC, she managed marketing plans and communications as an Associate Marketing Manager at BI Animal Health while completing her Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from University of Georgia. During her tenure at the company, she won awards for customer experience, created multiple strategic brand plans, and executed business-building tactics.   Her passion lies with helping entrepreneurs and small business owners start, grow, and succeed in their business.

Stephen Newton

Stephen Newton, UGA SBDC in DeKalb Growing up on a farm in rural south Georgia, Steve learned the importance of responsibility and hard work. He later learned the hard lessons and risks associated with agricultural business and the importance of managing cash flow through the seasons of preparing, planting, managing and harvest. In college he pursued degrees in economics and finance and after graduation applied his education in both public policy and private enterprise. As an ACE Hardware store owner for nearly a decade, he learned first hand the many challenges that start up businesses contend with. After closing that business in 2016 he was offered the opportunity to work with the UGA SBDC in Dekalb. He hopes to use both his education and experience as a business owner to help other entrepreneurs achieve their goals.

Mark Collier

As area director for the DeKalb office and faculty member with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (UGA SBDC), Mark delivers high value consulting and educational resources to entrepreneurs, business owners and senior level managers.   Mark assists valued clients in evaluating and strategizing the best and most efficient path to starting or growing a successful business.   Mark Collier joins the UGA SBDC after an accomplished career in the private sector and a temporary assignment with the U.S. Small Business Administration office of disaster assistance. As a capital projects program manager, Mark has successfully managed a series of residential, mixed use, and commercial real estate development projects over a 20-year career. Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the SBDC in the critical business functional areas of strategic planning, project management, business process improvement, and operational efficiency improvement initiatives. Mark holds a bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University and a Master of Business Administration. from Tulane University.   Mark was named a 2019, 2020 and 2021 Flewellen Award Winner for consulting excellence at the UGA SBDC which is one of the highest honors at the SBDC. The award winner(s) must perform at a level of excellence in multiple consulting categories throughout the previous calendar year.   Mark was appointed to Georgia Governor Kemp’s Georgian’s First taskforce on minority and woman owned business engagement where he contributed his wealth of knowledge on the goals, challenges and pain points of small business growth and development.   Mark also hosts The Playbook business show on the ASBN network here is Atlanta where he interviews emerging entrepreneurs, seasoned business owners and resource experts. Mark has also authored several white papers which have been featured in national publications. Mark has a true passion for small business growth and development.
