Art Reid provides business consulting services with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center at Clayton State University. Art is a strategic marketer with over 25 years of large global and small advertising agency management experience as well as client-side leadership experience in the technology sector; specializing in integrated communications – advertising, public relations and direct led initiatives – across both traditional and digital channels.
Art spent the first decade of his career on Madison Avenue in New York, NY, managing the marketing and advertising efforts for a diverse range of consumer and corporate brands including Nytol Sleep Aid, Tonka Toys, Chef-Boyardee Pizza, Scott Paper and VISA.
Art moved to Atlanta in the mid-90s, where he managed brand and advertising communications for Wachovia, ADT Security and Georgia-Pacific. In 1998, Art was the principal architect of the Georgia Natural Gas retail launch, attracting over half a million new retail customers to form the nation’s largest deregulated utility.
Just prior to 2000, Art joined the co-founder of WebMD as Director of Sales & Alliances to help form an Internet software company which targeted online brands with a promise of higher download speeds. In this role, Art helped the firm attract over $10 million in venture capital and form software pilot tests with such online icons as Amazon.
A few years later, Art returned to the advertising world to manage research, business and consumer insights, brand strategy, and advertising programs for multiple brands including Cingular Wireless (business voice and data services), Beautyrest mattresses, Shaw Floors, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Baptist Health and Georgia Power – among others.
In 2016, Art joined a research consultancy in Jacksonville, working with such brands as Verizon, Aetna and McGraw Hill in order to improve the financial performance of their online sales and marketing efforts. Art helped these brands and others develop control versus treatment testing scenarios (A/B split testing) to help shape their online messaging and improve conversion rates. Research results and insights were published though MarketingSherpa.com and helped inform content for the University of Florida and University of North Florida graduate certificate programs.
In recent years, Art co-founded an organization called Stand-Up Strategist which works to advance the role of humor in businesses and to bring about positive change for brands and organizations. Stand-Up Strategist publishes an annual Top 23 ranking and award list to recognize and celebrate companies who embrace humor by commemorating April Fool’s Day. Stand-Up Strategist has been featured in Forbes and Entrepreneur Magazine.
