Women Owned Wednesdays

October is Women’s Small Business Month. To celebrate, for the past 14 years, our DeKalb office has hosted an annual Women’s Small Business conference. Eight years ago, our Athens office joined in by hosting a similar event every year.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to host our usual event. But we weren’t going to give up that easily!

That’s why we’re proud to introduce Women-Owned Wednesdays (WOW). WOW is a series of no-cost webinars being offered from UGA SBDC offices across the state every Wednesday in October. We’re excited to offer this series of classes by women for women in celebration of Women’s Small Business Month.

Join us each Wednesday this October from anywhere in Georgia.

Everyone knows that their brand is the backbone of their business, but few people fully understand the practical steps needed to protect their brand. This session explains what a trademark is (and what it is not) while walking you through the trademark application process. Our speaker will describe some of the mistakes she most commonly encountered during years of reviewing trademark applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She will also explain some of the key decisions applicants must make along the way. No prior knowledge of trademark law or the application process is necessary. Our speaker, Dana Dickson, is a trademark attorney who helps creatives, innovators, and entrepreneurs protect their brands by filing applications to register trademarks. Prior to founding her own firm, Dana Dickson Law, she worked for years at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reviewing thousands of trademark applications. She has also argued before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
